Onedrive will not download files

Until recently, I was happily using OneDrive to download and sync my files across multiple devices, then all of a sudden it stopped, and every time I tried to access one of the newer files, I was faced with a ‘xxxx program is downloading this file in OneDrive’… ‘fucking odd’ I think!

In the past, I've never had to click on a file to pull it down from the OneDrive cloud. I cannot find the setting in my OneDrive that changes this. Because files are now not automatically copied into my local computer until they are clicked on, this is causing a problem with other applications.
